New Software: Video Triggers Video

March 20th, 2011

Sometimes people ask if my motion-detection software (Video Trigger) can play videos instead of sounds. It can’t… so I made Video Triggers Video. It plays a video whenever motion is detected in a live camera feed.

Witnesses at Sequence of Waves – Documented

February 7th, 2011

The Sequence of Waves show at St. Cecilia’s Convent was packed, but in case you missed it, here is my installation, “Witnesses”.

Exhibition: Sequence of Waves

January 23rd, 2011

I’m taking part in a massive one-day sound art show called Sequence of Waves, organized by the Rabid Hands art collective. The show will occupy St. Cecelia’s Convent in Greenpoint Brooklyn, a 3-story former convent and school. Over 40 artists are participating. There’s a robotic gamelon orchestra, a self-playing accordion suspended from ropes, performances, and much more.

My contribution is called “Witnesses”, a group of 10 circuit-bent Buddhist chant-boxes whose pitches are controlled by light-sensors attached to a CCTV surveillance monitor. Their chanting loops start in sync, but since each is “watching” a different part of the video image, they wander off in their own Steve Reich-esque directions. The TV periodically  switches between surveillance cameras, triggering the chant boxes to switch to a new track and re-synchronize.

Saturday, January 29th ONLY, 2 pm – 9 pm
St. Cecelia’s Convent 21 Monitor Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn

AFTER PARTY: Union Pool, back room, 9 pm
484 Union Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Live Video Delay updated: Longer delays and audio too

October 18th, 2010

Live Video Delay now uses system memory instead of the GPU. There are no arbitrary limits on delay time, and stereo audio gets delayed along with the video.

New Software: Live Video Delay

October 5th, 2010

I just uploaded a new app: Live Video Delay is a simple application with a self-explanatory name. It stores video frames in a “circular buffer,” displaying an old frame each time a new one arrives.
