Movement Reflection
Movement Reflection is a single channel, stereo audio/video presentation which results from a process of recycling and abstraction.
The audio, designed for a segment of a performance piece by MAP Intermedia, is a recycling and abstraction of a single synthesizer keystroke, processed via a simple algorithm to pass through a fluctuating virtual resonant environment.
The video is a processed recording (using the same algorithm) of the piece as performed by Brendan McCall. The abstracted video was then recycled itself, becoming the sole theatrical lighting for that segment of the performance.
Movement Reflection takes this entire process one step further by removing the performance context and presenting solely those design elements created for and by the performance itself. The video can perhaps be thought of as performance generating an environment, rather than the traditional inverse where design elements create an environment for performance.
