This is a repository for sounds that I've recorded. Some are components of my artwork, some are leftovers, and some are just interesting artifacts.

Guča Festival, Serbia (Aug 21st, 2007)

The Festival of the Golden Trumpet, in Guča, Serbia. (pronounced Goo-cha) is a complex and troubling celebration of Roma brass music, public drunkenness, and right-wing Serbian nationalism. Of course, these small recordings won't do it justice.

Christmas Eve at the Mama Thomas House (Dec 24th, 2005)

Every year on Christmas Eve, friends have hastily bailed from their family obligations and landed at the warm doorstep of Jeanette Thomas in Roger's Forge, MD. What once was probably a quiet family gathering has now become the high-point of the year for friends of her son Lou, who orbit around her piano in caroling chaos. Now, three golden hits of 2004 are available here for downloading. Ice out your iPod with these hot jamz. I'll see you next year.

Melodian Recordings (Nov 28th, 2005)

These are recordings of a great little instrument called the Melodian. It's a 1960's toaster-sized music box that accepts long punched cards like mini piano-rolls. An internal motor feeds the strips through the box, where each hole engages a finger to strike the corresponding note. In the recordings you can hear the wheezing of the little motor as it struggles to pull the card through the complex movement.
